Frequently Asked Questions
What conditions does fractional radiofrequency skin resurfacing treat?
Fractional radiofrequency skin resurfacing is useful in eliminating or diminishing the appearance of wrinkles, stretch marks, scars, age spots, enlarged pores, and sun-damaged skin.
What is fractional radiofrequency skin resurfacing?
Fractional radiofrequency skin resurfacing is an innovative, non-surgical skin resurfacing treatment that allows us to offer our patients rejuvenated, more youthful looking skin with minimal down time. The treatment uses tiny pins that safely deliver energy through the skin’s surface. This creates tiny wounds which heal.
What does the treatment feel like?
You will feel tiny pins on your skin followed by a little zap. Your skin will then feel warm, like a sunburn.
Will it be painful?
The treatment may be slightly uncomfortable, but not painful. You will feel intense heat, similar to the feeling of a sunburn and your skin will look red right after the treatment. For more aggressive treatments, a topical numbing cream may be applied to reduce any discomfort.
How long does a fractional radiofrequnecy skin resurfacing treatment take?
The radiofrequency resurfacing procedure normally takes between 20 to 45 minutes, depending on the size and location of the targeted area. A topical anesthetic may be applied before treatment which will increase the length of your appointment. Since each individual’s skin condition is unique, some people may have satisfactory results with three to four treatments, but others may require more sessions to achieve the dramatic results they seek.
What is the recovery like after fractional radiofrequncy skin resurfacing?
Your skin will be red for the first 24 hours after treatment and you may experience some mild swelling and discomfort. With more aggressive treatments, there can be redness and flaking of affected skin for up to 5 days. You can resume your regular skin care and makeup routine 24 hours after treatment. Sun exposure is to be avoided during the healing period.
Is fractional radiofrequency skin resurfacing considered safe?
Yes, this procedure is considered safe for most patients. Treatments use radiofrequency technology, which is proven to be safe and effective for all skin tones. A consultation with one of our doctors is required to determine if this treatment is right for you.
